What Hestan brings
Hestan launched in the 2010s, building on commercial kitchen equipment and cookware experience, and quickly became a contender in luxury outdoor cooking. A few things set the grills apart:
- Trellis burners. Hestan's main burners use a trellis-style design, shaped to spread flame across the width of the grill rather than in a single straight line. The goal is more even heat and fewer cold spots.
- Ceramic infrared sear burners on many models, for high-heat searing.
- Color. Hestan offers grills and outdoor kitchen pieces in a range of colored finishes as well as stainless, so a lot of the exterior is coated metal rather than bare steel.
- A full outdoor suite. Side burners, refrigeration, cabinets and more, designed to match.
What we see on Hestan grills
Hestan grills are newer, so we see fewer age-related failures and more maintenance-related ones:
- Grease buildup under and around the burners causing flare-ups and smoke. See flare-ups.
- Ignition that clicks but doesn't catch, usually from a grease-crusted electrode or misalignment.
- Infrared sear burners that light patchily after being sprayed with water or degreaser.
- Lighting and control issues on the front panel.
- Finish wear on colored surfaces from harsh cleaners or abrasive pads.
How we clean a Hestan
Grates and flame tamers come out first. We remove the burners and clear the trellis ports, which have more length and more ports than a standard tube burner. The firebox is scraped and degreased with a biodegradable cleaner, and the grease system emptied and cleaned. Ceramic sear burners are cleaned dry and inspected. On the outside, stainless gets a with-the-grain wipe and colored panels get a gentle, non-abrasive clean. Drop cloths protect the island, and rinse water goes with us. Parts and identification
Hestan parts for its outdoor line generally come through the manufacturer and its dealers. Since the brand is relatively young, most grills in service are still current or recent models, which helps with availability. The rating label is typically inside the grill, visible with the drip tray removed; see our model and serial guide for help. If your Hestan is still under warranty, start with Hestan for covered repairs; our warranty basics guide explains what's usually covered.
Hestan outdoor kitchens often include matching refrigeration, side burners and storage. If you want the whole run looked at, our outdoor kitchen service covers it on the same visit.
Hestan questions
Why do Hestan burners look different?
They use a trellis-shaped design that spreads the flame across the grill. The ports need the same care as any burner: keep grease off them and have them cleared periodically.
Can you touch up chips in a colored Hestan finish?
We clean and protect the finish but don't repaint. For finish damage, check with Hestan or a dealer about replacement panels.
Are you a Hestan authorized service company?
No. We're an independent, insured grill service company. Warranty work goes through Hestan.
How often should a Hestan be cleaned?
Once a year for most households, twice if you cook outside a lot or live near the coast.
