Grill cleaning
What's included in a professional grill cleaning?
We remove the grates, heat plates or flavorizer bars, burners and grease tray. Each part gets degreased. The firebox is scraped and cleaned, burner ports are cleared, the drip path is opened up, and the outside is cleaned and polished. Then everything goes back in and every burner is test-lit. Full details on our grill cleaning page.
How often should my grill be cleaned?
Once a year for most households. Twice a year if you grill several times a week, rent the property out, or live near the ocean. See how often to clean a grill.
How long does a cleaning take?
Most standard built-ins take a couple of hours. Large grills, very dirty grills and full outdoor kitchens take longer. We'll give you an idea when we quote.
Can I use the grill the same day?
Yes. Once we've put it back together and test-lit it, it's ready to cook on.
Is a deep cleaning different from what I do with a brush?
Very. Brushing the grates handles the top layer. Most of the grease that causes flare-ups and uneven heat lives under the grates, in the burners and at the bottom of the firebox. Our basic vs. deep cleaning guide compares the two.
Can you get rid of the brown staining on my stainless?
Usually, yes. Tea staining from salt and grease generally comes off with proper cleaning and stainless polishing. Deep pitting can be improved but not always erased.
Repairs
My grill clicks but won't light. What's wrong?
Most often it's a dirty or cracked igniter electrode, a dead battery in the ignition module, or a burner port blocked by grease or spiders. Our grill won't light page lists the common causes.
Why does one side of my grill run hotter than the other?
Clogged burner ports, a warped or rusted burner, or a low-pressure gas supply. See uneven heat and hot spots.
Do you carry parts on the truck?
We carry the parts that fail most often on the common premium brands: igniters, electrodes, burners, valves, knobs and more. Less common parts are ordered and installed on a return visit.
Can you find parts for an older or discontinued grill?
Often. Our parts access is broad, and there are good universal options for many components. See finding parts for discontinued grills.
I smell gas at my grill. What should I do?
Turn off the burners and the gas supply, don't try to light it, and keep flames away. If the smell is strong or you can't shut it off, leave the area and call your gas utility or 911. Once it's safe, we can find and fix the leak. See gas smell at the grill.
Why are my flames yellow instead of blue?
Usually an air shutter that needs adjusting, a spider web in the burner tube, or grease on the burner. Our yellow flame guide explains it.
Scheduling and visits
What days do you work?
7 days a week. Call or text and we'll find a time.
Do I need to be home during the visit?
Not always. If we can get to the grill and the gas shutoff, many customers leave a gate code and we send photos when we're finished. For repairs, it helps to be reachable by phone.
What do you need from me before you arrive?
Clear access to the grill and the gas shutoff, and the grill cool. Let us know about gates, guard booths, pets, building rules or parking limits.
How much does a visit cost?
It depends on the grill's size, brand, condition and what parts it needs. Call or text, or send a couple of photos through the quote form, and we'll give you a straight answer.
Do you offer recurring service?
Yes. Our maintenance plans put your grill and outdoor kitchen on a regular schedule so you don't have to remember to book.
Eco-friendly cleaning
What products do you use?
Biodegradable, non-toxic, food-safe degreasers. Where steam or hot water does the job, we use that instead. See eco-friendly grill degreasers.
Where does the grease go?
With us. We catch the grease and dirty rinse water and haul it away rather than letting it run into the yard, the pool or the storm drain.
Is it safe for pets and kids to be around?
Yes, though we ask that pets stay inside during the visit so they're not underfoot around tools and parts.
Does eco-friendly cleaning get the grill as clean?
Yes. The work is done by taking the grill apart and cleaning each piece, not by spraying something strong and hoping. The result is as clean, and the stainless is in better shape afterward.
Replacement and new grills
How do I know whether to repair or replace?
If the firebox is rusted through, or the grill needs so many parts that it approaches the cost of a new one, replacing usually makes more sense. We'll tell you honestly. Our repair or replace guide lays out the factors.
Can a new grill fit my existing island?
Often, yes. Cutout sizes vary by brand, but there's usually a current model that fits or can be fitted with minor work. See how to measure a grill cutout.
Do you sell grills or just install them?
Both. We're a dealer and can supply and install a new built-in grill. See grill sales and replacement.
Can you convert a grill from propane to natural gas?
On most grills that the manufacturer allows to be converted, yes. It involves changing orifices and the regulator. See gas conversion.
Fireplaces, fire pits and more
Do you service gas fire pits?
Yes. Fire pits that won't light or burn unevenly usually have debris in the burner, a bad igniter or thermocouple, or a valve problem. See fire pit service.
Do you work on gas fireplaces?
Yes, indoor and outdoor gas fireplaces: cleaning, pilot and thermocouple work, and ignition repairs. See fireplace service.
What about pizza ovens, smokers and griddles?
We clean and repair those too. See smokers, griddles and pizza ovens.
My patio heater won't stay lit. Can you fix it?
Usually. The thermocouple, a dirty pilot or a tilt switch are the common causes. See patio heater repair.

My city isn't listed. Can you still come?
