Different weather, different wear
Five miles from the ocean makes a difference. Beverly Hills gets less marine layer than Santa Monica and runs noticeably warmer in summer, so salt corrosion is a minor issue here. What we see instead is baked-on grease. Hot afternoons and frequent entertaining cook a grill's grease film into a hard, dark lacquer on the hood interior and heat plates. Left long enough, it flakes onto food and blocks the grease path, and flare-ups follow.
The other culprit is water. Los Angeles tap water is hard, and sprinklers that hit an outdoor kitchen leave chalky white spots on stainless that harden over time. People often think those spots are corrosion. Usually they're mineral deposits, and they come off with the right technique and no harsh acids. See our stainless steel care guide for the do's and don'ts.
What's that on my stainless?
| What you see | Likely cause | Our fix |
|---|---|---|
| White, chalky spots | Hard water from sprinklers or hosing | Mineral removal and polish with the grain |
| Rainbow or gold tint near the burners | Heat discoloration from high-temperature cooking | Often reduces with polishing; partly permanent on some steels |
| Dark, sticky film inside the hood | Carbonized grease | Degreasing and scraping during a deep clean |
| Orange specks | Iron particles from steel brushes or nearby work | Cleaned off before they pit the surface |

In the flats south of Sunset, outdoor kitchens tend to be compact built-ins along a back wall or next to the pool. North of Sunset and up into Trousdale Estates and the hillside streets, the kitchens get bigger and the access gets trickier: gated drives, terraced lots, equipment carried down stairs. Condo and apartment buildings along Wilshire and south toward Pico often have shared pool-deck grills that we service for building management.
Whatever the setting, the visit is the same: everything comes apart, gets cleaned and inspected, goes back together, and gets test-fired before we leave. If a part's worn, we show it to you first. If you want to know what happens step by step, read what happens during a professional cleaning.

Beverly Hills FAQ
Can you remove heat discoloration from my grill?
Some of it. Light gold tinting often polishes out. Deep blue or purple heat tint on thinner steel can be permanent, though it doesn't affect how the grill works.
How often should I schedule a cleaning?
For a grill used every week or two, twice a year is a good baseline. Heavy entertaining calls for more. Our cleaning frequency guide has a fuller breakdown.
Do you work with building managers for shared grills?
Yes. We can set up a recurring schedule and invoice the association or management company directly.
What does it cost?
It depends on the grill's size, brand and condition, plus any parts. Call or text, or send a couple of photos for a quote.
