The Summerset lineup
Summerset focuses on giving homeowners stainless built-ins at a moderate price. The main gas grill families are:
- Sizzler, the entry-level line, very common in prefab islands and budget builds.
- TRL, the step-up line with heavier construction and more features, including options like rotisserie and lights.
- Alturi, the higher-end line with a more distinctive look and upgraded burners.
Summerset also sells side burners, refrigeration, storage and outdoor kitchen components, so you'll often see a matching Summerset island.
Common Summerset repairs
- Ignition. Igniters that stop sparking, often a dead battery, worn electrode or loose wire. See igniter replacement.
- Heat distribution parts. Flame tamers that warp or rust over time.
- Grease and flare-ups. Packed drip trays and grease-coated flame tamers.
- Burners. Uneven flame from blocked ports or spider webs in the venturi. See spider and insect blockages.
- Lighting on models with lit controls or interior lights.
Cleaning a Summerset
Grates, flame tamers and burners come out. We clear ports and venturi tubes, scrape and degrease the firebox, and clean the grease tray and drip path. Ignition and flame get tested on every burner. Stainless is cleaned and finished with the grain. Sizzler grills especially benefit from regular cleaning, since lighter-gauge parts are more vulnerable to the corrosion that grease and moisture cause. See BBQ grill cleaning for the full process.
Parts and when to replace
Summerset parts are generally available for current and recent models. The rating label is usually inside the grill or underneath, visible with the drip tray out. An older Sizzler with a rusting firebox may be a better candidate for replacement than repair, while a TRL or Alturi with worn burners and igniters is usually worth fixing. Our repair or replace guide lays out how we think about it, and we can supply and install a new grill matched to your cutout. Start with how to measure a grill cutout if you want to check sizes yourself.
Value built-ins like Summerset are where a maintenance habit pays off the most. A grill that gets cleaned once a year and burned off after each cook usually outlasts one that gets ignored by several years.
If you're unsure which line you have, the model number on the rating label tells us. Sizzler, TRL and Alturi use different parts, so we confirm the series before ordering anything.
Summerset islands often include a matching side burner and refrigerator, and we can check those on the same visit.
Summerset questions
Is a Summerset worth repairing?
Often, yes. Burners, igniters and flame tamers are replaceable and not expensive to source. Replacement makes more sense when the firebox is rusting through.
Are you a Summerset authorized service center?
No. We're an independent, insured grill company. Warranty questions go to Summerset.
Can you convert my Summerset to natural gas?
Often, with the correct conversion parts for the model. See propane to natural gas conversion.
What's the difference between Sizzler and TRL?
TRL is the heavier, more feature-rich line. Sizzler is the entry model. Both cook well; TRL tends to last longer.
