New houses, new outdoor kitchens
Over the past couple of decades a large share of Arcadia's older ranch houses have been replaced with new, larger homes, especially in the neighborhoods north of Foothill Boulevard and around the Highlands. Most of those builds came with an outdoor kitchen: a long stone or tile island, a premium built-in grill, and often a side burner, griddle or high-output wok burner for serious cooking.
New construction brings its own grill problems. Some grills were installed by a general contractor in a hurry and never adjusted, so burners run yellow or the air shutters were never set. Some sat unused through a long build and came out of the box with construction dust inside. Others get heavy use with high-heat stir-fry and searing, which coats the firebox and grease channels faster than the manuals assume.
Typical Arcadia outdoor kitchen, and what each part needs
| Appliance | Common issue | How often to service |
|---|---|---|
| Built-in gas grill | Grease buildup, uneven burners | Once or twice a year |
| Wok or power burner | Oil residue, clogged ports, weak flame | With every grill cleaning |
| Flat-top griddle | Rust from moisture, grease trough overflow | Seasonal, plus regular owner care |
| Side burner | Ignition stops working from lack of use | Checked with each visit |
| Outdoor refrigerator | Dirty condenser, door seals | Annual check |
| Gas fire feature | Debris in pan, pilot or ignition faults | Before cool season |
Getting a new installation right
If your outdoor kitchen is being built now, we can supply and install the grill once the island and gas line are in place. That includes checking the cutout dimensions, confirming the gas type and pressure match the grill, setting the air shutters and leak-testing every connection. Grills set up properly from day one burn cleaner and last longer. Start with built-in grill installation or our guide to measuring a grill cutout.

Learn moreOlder homes, too
Not everything in Arcadia is new. South of Huntington Drive and in the established neighborhoods near the Arboretum and Santa Anita, there are plenty of mid-century homes with older islands and freestanding grills. We repair those, find parts for discontinued models where possible, and replace grills that are done. Cleaning is always eco-friendly: biodegradable products, drop cloths down, and rinse water captured and taken away.
Arcadia questions
My new grill burns yellow. Is it defective?
Probably not. It's often air shutters that were never adjusted, or debris in the burner tubes from construction. That's usually a quick fix.
Can you clean a high-output wok burner?
Yes. We clean the burner ports, check ignition and degrease the surrounding area.
How much do installation and service cost?
It depends on the equipment, its size and brand, and what's involved. Call or text, or send photos, for a quote.
