Propane grills and their usual problems
East Los Angeles is unincorporated county land, mostly older single-family homes and small multi-unit lots, many with compact yards. Freestanding propane grills are what we service most here. They're practical: movable, no gas line needed. They also have a predictable list of weak spots, and nearly all of them trace back to the tank, the hose or the regulator.
The classic one is a grill that suddenly won't get above a few hundred degrees. Often the regulator has gone into bypass mode, a safety feature that limits gas flow when it senses a possible leak, usually triggered by opening the tank valve with the burner knobs already on. Resetting it fixes the problem most of the time. If it doesn't, the regulator itself may be worn out, especially after years in the sun.
Try this before you call
If your propane grill is running weak, this reset is safe to do yourself.
- 1
Shut everything off
Turn all burner knobs to off and close the valve on top of the tank.
- 2
Disconnect the regulator
Unscrew the regulator from the tank and wait a minute or two.
- 3
Reconnect it
Thread it back on hand-tight. Don't use tools on the connection.
- 4
Open the tank slowly
Open the tank valve a little at a time, with every burner knob still off.
- 5
Light one burner
Light it as normal, then turn on the others. If the flame is still low, call us.
More on this in natural gas and propane problems. If the hose is cracked or stiff, or the regulator is visibly corroded, we replace them as a set. See regulator and hose replacement.

Learn moreSmall yards, tight access
Many lots here are narrow, and the grill might be behind a locked side gate, on a covered patio between two units, or in a driveway against the house. That's fine for us. We work in tight spaces, lay down drop cloths, catch the rinse water and carry everything out the way we came in. We cover the neighborhoods across East LA, from City Terrace and the hills near Cal State LA down to Belvedere and the streets around Whittier Boulevard.

East LA grill questions
Is East Los Angeles part of the City of LA?
No, it's unincorporated Los Angeles County. It doesn't change anything about our service. We cover the whole area.
My grill smells like gas near the tank. Is it safe?
Close the tank valve and don't light the grill. Do a soap test on the connection or call us. A worn hose or regulator is a common cause and an easy replacement.
Can you fix a grill from a big box store?
Yes. We work on budget and mid-range grills as well as premium brands, as long as parts are available.
What does it cost?
It depends on the size and condition of the grill and which parts are needed. Call or text us, or send a couple of photos, and we'll quote it.
