Up the stairs and around the side
In the hillier neighborhoods, the grill is often on an upper deck or a back terrace you reach by a narrow side path or a flight of steps. That rules out anything that needs a hose bib right next to the grill or a truck backed up to the patio. Our setup is portable: degreasers, steam, drop cloths and sealed containers for the rinse water all come up by hand.
Hillside lots get their own wear, too. Afternoon sun on an exposed terrace fades knobs and dries out rubber gaskets. Wind brings dust and leaves into the firebox. And if the grill sits under eaves or a pergola, spiders find their way into the burner tubes. When you book, tell us how to get to the grill and whether there's parking at the curb, and we'll plan the time accordingly.
What happens on a repair visit
- 1
Talk through the symptoms
Won't light, weak flame, smells like gas, one burner dead. Knowing this ahead of time tells us which parts to bring.
- 2
Check the gas supply first
We confirm the shutoff, test the regulator on propane grills and check pressure on natural gas lines before taking anything apart.
- 3
Find the actual fault
Burners, valves, igniters and orifices get looked at one by one. A lot of repairs turn out to be a cleaning problem underneath.
- 4
Fix it and test it
We replace what's failed, light every burner, and do a leak test on any fitting we've touched.
- 5
Tell you what's next
If something is wearing out but not dead yet, we'll mention it so it isn't a surprise next season.

Switching from propane to natural gas
Lugging propane tanks up a hillside staircase gets old. If your home has natural gas and a line can reach the patio, many grills can be converted with the right orifices and regulator from the manufacturer. We handle the grill side of the conversion and test it. Running a new gas line to the patio is a plumbing job. Read propane vs. natural gas grills to see if it's worth it, then look at our conversion service.

Monterey Park FAQ
Can every grill be converted from propane to natural gas?
No. It depends on whether the manufacturer offers a conversion kit for your model. Send us the model number and we'll check before you commit to anything.
My grill is on a deck up a long flight of stairs. Is that a problem?
Not for cleaning or most repairs. If you're replacing a heavy built-in, tell us about the access so we can bring enough people.
How much does a repair cost?
It depends on what's wrong, the brand and which parts are needed. Call or text us with the symptoms and a photo of the model tag and we'll give you an idea before the visit.
